My uncle called me because he had put new ink in his printer and it wouldn't work. So I gave him a few suggestions, and it was the first one that worked. I told him to take out the cartridges and put them in again, making sure that he removed that piece of protective tape on the cartridge first. He forgot to remove it. Just a reminder.
Other Things To Try. These have worked at one time or another in the past.
net stop spooler
del /Q /F /S "%systemroot%\System32\Spool\Printers\*.*"
net start spooler
This stops the Printer Spooler service, empties the folder in question and the restarts the service.
