I've been using this program for awhile now. I recently used it to fix my network issues. My computers stopped talking to each other and after a week of searching and trying every fix and tweak found on-line, I figured a system restore was in order. I don't like using system restore or backups to fix my problems because then I never know what went wrong in the first place. Especially since now, as I'm writing this my network is gone again.
But this is not about my network. I was going to use System Restore to fix my system but I think that is also on the blink. This originally happened back in December. And when I went to Windows System Restore I only had one restore point for the entire year of 2016 and restore points going back to 2012 that should of been deleted a long time ago. Also the only one for 2016 didn't go back far enough for when this problem started.
This is where the program ERUNT - The Emergency Recovery Utility NT - comes in. The home page is: http://larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ but most of the links to the program seem to be dead. The last two on the page named Server 2 and Server 3 are still active for the erunt.zip version. Only downside here it doesn't include the installer. The installer gives you the option to have the program added to the Startup menu so it automatically makes a backup of your registration database when you turn on or restart your computer.

The install is pretty straight forward. You'll eventually get to a screen where it will ask about setting for automatic backup on Windows start/restart. I recommend Yes.
You can manually run the program and make a backup by clciking on OK on the Welcome screen.
You can choose a different folder by clicking on the little box with the three dots. You can check the other open user registries. Then just click on OK.
It only takes a minute or so and then you'll get a confirmation window telling you the backup is complete.
If you don't change the folder the backups automatically go into the C:\Windows\ERDNT\ folder. The automatic backups go into the C:\Windows\ERDNT\AutoBackup folder.
I have pointed out before System Restore somtimes just doesn't work. It's been refered to online as a "glorified registration backup". So I used this instead to restore my system and hopefully clear up my network issues.
To restore your registry you have to go into one of the backup folders and run the program called ERDNT.EXE
You can just leave the defaults and click on OK. Some security programs may interfere with this program. Temporally disable or better yet, do it in safe mode.
You'll get a Restoration of the registry is complete! message. And a request to reboot your system. Reboot.
It cleared out my system but now my network is not working again, I'm referring to sharing folders and printer not the Internet. I've got so many issues developing right now, I'm going to either have to reset my system or do a repair install. I'll let you know.
If you download the one without the installer, it's pretty simple to set it up to run automatically, just navigate to this folder:
C:\Users\(your account)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

Inside this Startup folder, right-click anywhere on blank space, click on New, and Shortcut, type the following in, replace path name with actual path to the program on your system.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\ERUNT\AUTOBACK.EXE" %SystemRoot%\ERDNT\AutoBackup\#Date# /noconfirmdelete /noprogresswindow
Clicking on Next, type a name or leave it at AUTOBACK.EXE. Click on Finish. Now you got a shortcut in the startup folder that will run the auto-backup program every time you turn on or restart your computer.
