Cleaning Sticky Plastic

You may have had some item a toy, console controllers, remotes, or in my case a flashlight and a mouse that for what seems like reasons unknown, becomes sticky and you know for a fact you didn't spill anything on it. It seems that some plastics can break down over time and it becomes sticky.

What you need to do is to try and wash off this sticky layer. There are three methods I've discovered that may help you in this situation.

  • 1. Rubbing Alcohol

Use rubbing alcohol to try and clean it. It was so-so in my case.

  • 2. Baking Soda And Water

Take some baking soda and some water and make like a paste out of it. Slather over device and then then rub off. Bit messy but a little better than the alcohol.

  • 3. WD-40

But the winner in my case WD-40. Spray on and wipe off.

In all cases, if you are dealing with electrical appliances or something that has cracks and other openings, be careful not to get any liquid or powder into thsese cracks. You might have to experiment with how much to use and how long to keep it on before wiping for best results.
