This one is supposed to be a little more updated: sourceforge.net/projects/unknowndevices/
I recently mentioned buying my sister's old tower which led to a problem, not enough places to plug them in on my router. I only have four on my router, three taken up by three other towers and one used by my cable TV. I need my cable box hooked up to the internet for it to work. I use my old computers for backup.
I could dig out a router or switch I might have around here somewhere and chain them together but instead I went with a USB wireless adapter. I had one problem. Couldn't get any drivers to set up. Device manager was just referring to it as a 802.11n WLAN Adapter, not very helpful without the brand name. There where no name brand markings on the device either.
So I dug out a program that I used in the past for unknown devices conveniently called, Unknown Devices. Just open it up and it automatically starts scanning for all installed devices and hopefully will help identify any with issues. In my case it identified the device as a Realtek Semiconductor device but without the model number it still was a pain to find the drivers. But still, this program as been helpful in the past in finding drivers for unknown devices.
I did finally find the proper driver to install. I just plugged the adapter into one of my other computers, my main Asus computer and it set up with no issues with the name of Realtek RTL8192EU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter.
I found a link to download the drivers here: www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/rtl8192eu-software
The Realtek link still works (at the time of this writing, anyway). I just tested it. Took a couple of tries to go through. When you get to the Captcha, add up the numbers shown and put that in as your answer.
