Desktop Doesn’t Power Up After Outage

We had a few power outages in town. A few planned a few not planned. Hopefully now the power company has it all straightened out. After a power outage, I received a call from a woman because their desktop computer wouldn’t power up. I wasn’t sure what to do at first then out of the blue it hit me.

I unplugged the power cord. Held in on the power button for about 30 seconds. Plugged it back in. Turned it on. It powered on. Showed them what to do, just in case.

Another victim of the outage was one of my laptop. It wouldn’t power up. It turned out to be the power brick and not the laptop. The big rectangular part on the laptop power cord. My battery is shot so the cord is the only power option. Luckily I had a replacement cord.

Everything is plugged into surge protection power bars but they are old and the surge protection may have deteriorated over time. As I understand it, this can happen. Time to get some new ones.
